I've been searching for an intercom system on and off for a couple of years. I've been using earbuds during this time. The sticker shock of $180-$300 (depending on the particular make) for a single unit of the most well-known brands was outrageous and because I require two units, I was easily looking at $500-$600. I started to search for an alternative.
When I first saw the Gearelec G-max, I was impressed by the technology - Qualcomm 5.2 chipset, CVC noise reduction, battery strength to 50hours, music sharing and an LCD display - all of this for under $80? I couldn't help but wonder "what's the catch?" I also noticed that the reviews were astounding, 97% for 4-5 stars combined? Seemed too good to be true but I decided to take a chance on a single G-max unit just to try it out. The results far exceeded my expectations.
The unit comes nicely packaged, fully charged and ready to go straight out of the box. I'm using an HJC modular helmet which has built-in materials made for helmet speakers which is a nice to have feature but it is not necessary though. The Gearelec comes with several very sticky velcro pads for adhering the speakers to any helmet. One thing to be aware of is that the closer you can get the speaker to your ear, the better they are going to sound. This is true regardless of the intercomm brand. When I installed mine, I inserted chair leg pads as spacers between the helmet and the Gearelec speakers which brings the speakers closer to my ears. Once I got the speakers and mic installed into the helmet, I used the included velcro to attach the Gearelec unit to my helmet - which has already survived several rainstorms and is still perfectly holding the unit to my helmet. The Gearelec also comes with a nice non-velcro attachment which I think would've worked very well but at the time, I just wanted to get this thing up and running as fast as possible as I was dying to try it out.
Once I connected the Gearelec G-Max unit to the speaker/mic connector, I powered it on. Pairing to my iphone literally took 10 seconds and it's up and running. Being able to see status via the LCD display is a very nice feature! I immediately put on some rock music and was astounded by the sound! Really nice, great bass, treble, mid-range. These are not your average headphone speakers - they really produce good sound - even at high speed. I typically like my music quite loud and I had no issues with the loudness of these speakers.
I made and received several phone calls at various speeds (up to 100 mph) and the calls were clear and people were surprised to learn I was actually talking to them while on a motorcycle.
The buttons (mute, volume up and down, power on/off) are easy to use even with gloves on. I did not get a chance to pair it with a third party headset but from what I have read, the Gearelec is very compatible with other brands.
I made 6 - 300+ mile trips (from Raleigh NC to Charlotte NC) as well as many hours of riding with friends during the past 5 weeks. It seemed like forever (it was over a month) before I had to recharge the battery. I did notice that once the battery indicator voice announces that the battery strength is 1/2 way, which takes many hours, the length of time to require a recharge goes a lot quicker after the 1/2 way point but that is hardly a concern.
I purchased a second G-max for the other helmet and these two units pair up straight away. Music sharing worked great too. INtercomm between the helmets is fantastic!
Customer service is terrific too. They immediately reached out to me after my purchase and let me know that they were available if there were any issues.
It's been just short of two months thus far, no complaints, no issues. Absolutely impressed with this and you will be too. Solid value at this price point and they easily outperform other brands that cost twice as much or more. I highly recommend the Gearelec G-max.

Wow! This unit easy go far! Easily over 2000 feet between two devices and the voice still clear. The thing is, it must be in open area or line of sight. Any building shorten the distance to half.
Speaker is loud but lack some low end due to distance from my ears. Mic with foam wind sock works great. Without the foam wind sock, it will have wind noise. Mic is clear.
Pairing is bit harder to understand at first. Customer service is great help and clear that up for me. It is hard to find good CS A+
OH. Battery! I rode 40 miles and I still haven't drain the battery to zero.
I wish GMax come with a spare tape-on clip for the Gmax unit. This way i can use the unit in my full face helmet also.
